In 1962, Stuart Marcus embarked on a journey that would shape the future of Kitfix Hobbes Limited. Starting out he would call in on his first customers with samples strapped to the back of his Lambretta scooter. Beginning as a small-scale toys and games wholesale business in East London, the company quickly outgrew its modest premises. In 1968, Stuart’s ambition led to a pivotal moment with the acquisition of a 4-acre site in Swaffham, Norfolk.
Throughout the 1970s, Kitfix Hobbes transitioned from importing toys to establishing its own factory in Swaffham, marking the start of manufacturing its own products under the Kitfix brand.
In the 1980’s, strategic acquisitions, including Ingam Day and Swallow Plastics, prompted our transformation into Kitfix Swallow Group (KSG). Amidst continued innovation, the company emerged as a prominent force in the British toy market.
Sequin Art craft sets, invented in the 1960’s by two American ladies and later acquired by us in 1987, became our primary focus. Today, we export these unique craft products across Europe and worldwide. Our portfolio expanded to include 3D Sequin Art and Diamond Art, as well as the Painting by Numbers and Artfoil ranges.
A significant milestone in the company’s history was reached in 2023 when production was relocated to a new state-of-the-art production facility in Poland. This strategic move has created significant efficiencies in supplying our European-made products to our customers across the continent, and the globe.
